STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SEVENTIES: ILLUMINATE IS BACK WITH A NEW SEASON
The sixth season of Illuminate, a docuseries dedicated to women who have made history in their respective fields, is set to kick off soon. The format of the show remains the same as the original: famous actresses embody the private and professional lives of the women being honored. Archival footage and testimonies from family, friends, and colleagues help shed light on their stories. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming season.
ILLUMINATE: STARTING WITH MARTINA STELLA AS NILLA PIZZI
The first episode of this sixth season of Illuminate is dedicated to Nilla Pizzi, portrayed by Martina Stella. An actress, singer, and the first winner of the Sanremo Festival (back in 1951), Pizzi led a vibrant life both professionally and personally. She was a pioneer in terms of travel, something not very common at the time, especially for a woman, and an entrepreneur (she opened a restaurant in Acapulco). Her timeless hit songs “Vola colomba” and “Papaveri e papere” are still remembered fondly today. It is also revealed that she was the first Italian singer to have a fan club, named “Il salottino di Nilla.” Remembering the diva in the episode are her granddaughter Maura Fantuzzi, Platinette, and journalists Pino Strabioli and Massimo Cotto.
UPCOMING EPISODES: FROM MONICA VITTI TO THE SISTERS FONTANA
In the following episodes, viewers will get the chance to delve into the lives of actress Monica Vitti (played by Carla Signoris), screenwriter Suso Cecchi D’Amico (portrayed by Anna Ferzetti), the legendary Fontana sisters Zoe, Micol, and Giovanna (interpreted by Euridice Axen), known for dressing some of the most influential women in the world.
WHEN AND WHERE TO WATCH IT ON TV
Illuminate, a show produced by Anele in collaboration with Rai Cultura, premieres on Sunday, February 25th on Rai Tre in the late evening slot. A total of 4 episodes are expected for this season.
