JERRY CALÀ, AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW AT THE MAGNA GRAECIA FILM FESTIVAL

JERRY CALÀ, WHAT IS THE SECRET TO MAINTAINING A STRONG CONNECTION WITH YOUR AUDIENCE?

“There is no secret, and if there is one, first of all, it is surely to always remain true to oneself, to what you love and what you want to do. It is important to give the audience the feeling that you do this job with passion, and that even after many years, you still enjoy your work, and the audience perceives that. I believe that they see in me that guy who, at over seventy years old, still enjoys doing this job.”

JERRY CALÀ, YOU WERE THE STAR OF ONE OF ITALY’S MOST SUCCESSFUL TV SERIES THAT TOLD THE STORY OF ITALIAN SUMMERS. WHAT TV SERIES DO YOU WATCH TODAY?

“Well, Professione Vacanze was a fantastic series, I think it even has the record for the number of years it has been broadcast on Mediaset networks every year. With my son, we watch many series, he is more of a cinephile than me. We watch many American series, like Breaking Bad. I must say that I can’t watch TV series a little at a time, I binge-watch them all in one night.”

JERRY CALÀ, CAN YOU GIVE US ANY HINTS ABOUT FUTURE PROJECTS AND WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO A VARIETY SHOW?

“Television is a particular matter, I would like to do TV dramas, yes, because I think that with my age, I could bring to life interesting characters. As for the variety show, well, I consider myself a showman, I do over a hundred shows a year throughout Italy in squares with up to seven thousand people, putting on a show that combines music and comedy. It seems that lately, TV is looking for people who don’t know how to do anything, to put them on display. I don’t know, I see a strange movement.”
